City of Bonn

Parking space concept Beuel-Mitte.

Parking pressure in the center of Beuel is high - partly because a particularly large number of commuter vehicles park here during the day. A new parking space concept is intended to ensure that the public parking spaces are primarily available to residents, retail customers, tradespeople and care services.

The plans for a parking space concept for Beuel-Mitte envisage full management of the public parking spaces, including exceptions for residents with parking permits. The majority of the public parking spaces in the area are to be available primarily to residents with corresponding  resident parking permits. In the business area between Friedrich-Breuerstrasse and Herrmannstrasse, parking is also only possible with a parking ticket so that sufficient parking spaces remain free for retail customers. Craft businesses or social services can also use the parking spaces with the  craft parking permit or the  parking permit for social services . There are exceptions for tradespeople. All others must take a parking ticket from one of the 87 planned parking machines.

At the same time, minimum footpath widths of 1.50 meters are to be created in order to increase the mobility of people on foot. This will reduce the number of existing parking spaces in the entire area. At the same time, the city assumes that the number of vehicles in public spaces will decrease significantly, as fewer commuters will park there due to the management and residents will increasingly use private spaces.

You can find more information on the planned Beuel-Mitte parking space concept in the  draft resolution (opens in a new tab) in Bonn's council and information system ALLRIS.

The new parking space concept will apply here

The area for the parking space concept is delimited by Werdstraße and Clemensstraße to the north, Niederkasseler Straße and Königswinterer Straße to the northeast, the railroad line to the east, Ringstraße to the south and the Rhine to the west. Sankt Augustiner Straße (Bundesstraße 56), the main road, divides the study area into two halves in terms of urban development. The district center along Friedrich-Breuer-Straße, with its many stores and restaurants as well as cultural offerings, borders directly to the south of this main traffic axis. The area to the north of Jahnstrasse and the Ringstrasse to the south are not being proposed for development for the time being.

In future, the center of Beuel is to be divided into three different resident parking zones, in which a total of 87 parking ticket machines are to be installed. Areas are to be designated for loading zones, disabled parking spaces and car sharing, among others, and additional bicycle parking facilities are to be installed.

The creation of minimum widths for sidewalks for pedestrians and lanes for emergency vehicles such as the fire department and Bonnorange will slightly reduce the number of existing parking spaces in the entire area. As the parking spaces and multi-storey parking lots in the study area are not yet fully utilized, there is potential to shift parking from the public streets to existing parking spaces.

The implementation of the Beuel-Mitte parking space concept is planned for summer 2025. Parking space management is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025.

Parking concepts in other Bonn neighborhoods

Parking space concepts have already been established on the Venusberg and in Bonn's Nordstadt district. In both districts, parking pressure and parking search traffic have decreased. In  Nordstadt in particular, the changes have also had a positive impact in the form of wider sidewalks and bicycle stands. Information on other planned parking concepts in Bonn's neighborhoods can be found  here.
