Carrots are the fourth most frequently thrown away vegetable in private households (Gfk SE Nuremberg 2017). As with all types of fruit and vegetables, it is worth buying carrots according to your needs: Only buy the quantities you really need.
Carrots are a root vegetable and are best kept in the vegetable drawer of the fridge. To keep the root crunchy and prevent the leaves from being supplied with water, please remove the green parts immediately. Carrots will keep for seven to ten days in the vegetable compartment of the fridge.
Incidentally, carrots are not only edible with their skin; the carrot greens can also be prepared. The greens of carrots, preferably organic, can be used for soups, salads or even pesto. In this way, valuable food can be saved from the garbage can.
