With the designation of the Rosental as a cycle route, the cycle routes in the old town (including Breite Straße, Paulstraße, Georgstraße and Heerstraße) will be connected to the banks of the Rhine and the Rhine cycle path there. This Old Town axis will create an important cycling connection between Bonn-Zentrum, Nordstadt and the banks of the Rhine and, in the long term, connect the banks of the Rhine to the Bornheim-Alter-Bonn commuter route.

The cycle route Auf dem Dransdorfer Berg, Effertzstraße and Am Burggraben creates a cycle connection between the districts of Dransdorf and Endenich via the cycle and pedestrian connections on Messdorfer Feld and later via Kapellenstraße. The connection to Röckumstraße and Flodelingsweg, which are also designated as cycle routes, also strengthens the connection function to Duisdorf and Lengsdorf.

On this axis, the ring road was newly established as a cycle route. It connects the Rhine with Beuel railroad station and, with the adjoining underpasses under the Deutsche Bahn railroad line, also creates a connection to the eastern districts of Beuel such as Neu-Vilich and Pützchen. The Siegfried-Leopold-Straße cycle route, which has been in place for years, also runs between Beuel station and the Kennedy Bridge in Beuel via Neustraße. Neustraße is also to become a cycle route, complementing the Beueler Bogen. It can be used to reach the districts of Limperich, Küdinghoven and Ramersdorf and, via the "Auf dem Grendt" bridge, Königswinter and the adjacent streets.

The cycle lanes set up in the Bundesviertel connect to the Rhine cycle path and the Südbrücke bridge. This means that the workplaces in the Bundesviertel are better connected to the Südbrücke and the Ennertbad route for commuters by bike. This will improve the cycling infrastructure for many commuters from the Ramersdorf, Küdighoven, Limperich and Pützchen districts of Beuel. It also creates an attractive connection for cyclists commuting to the Bundesviertel via the B9 or the banks of the Rhine. Zitelmannstraße also provides a connection to Dottendorf and to the cycle paths parallel to the railroad.

In combination with the Kessenich-Dottendorf route, the Friesi route provides an important link between Bad Godesberg and Bonn-Zentrum. In contrast to the parallel cycle route along the railroad tracks, this connection also fulfills important functions for district-related development and thus for local traffic, e.g. to schools and shopping (Friesdorf district center, Klufterplatz). The route through In der Kumme, Im Erlengrund, Promenadenweg and Aennchenstraße creates a continuous connecting axis between the center of Friesdorf and the center of Bad Godesberg with low traffic volumes, away from the busy Friesdorfer Straße.

Röckumstraße and Flodelingsweg, which have been newly established as cycle lanes, form an important connecting axis for cycle traffic from the city center to Endenich and, as an extension, also to Lengsdorf or Duisdorf. Many students and commuters from the residential areas use this route to the university campus in Poppelsdorf or to Bonn city center. The connecting path to Alfred-Bucherer-Straße provides a direct link to Endenich Allee.

The conversion of Holtorfer Str., Am Ennertbad, Forstweg, Pützchensweg and Flutgraben into cycle lanes will create a link between Ramersdorf, Limperich, Küdinghoven and Pützchen and strengthen the connection to the Südbrücke bridge. Via Kirchstraße and Gallusstraße, which has already been established as a cycle lane, a connection to the cycle path on Schießbergweg is created, which leads to the Rheinaue, to the line 62 stop, to the Südbrücke bridge and to the Rhine cycle path. Schoolchildren from the LiKüRa residential areas can reach the integrated comprehensive school and the St. Adelheid grammar school via this route.

The Südbrücke route connects to the Bundesviertel route in Gronau. This will improve the cycling infrastructure for many commuters who travel between the residential areas of Beuel and the main workplaces in the Bundesviertel.

Designating Burbacher Strasse and Kessenich Strasse as cycle routes will give cyclists more space on this already well-frequented route. The route has an important connecting function between the districts of Kessenich and Dottendorf and is an important alternative to Hausdorffstraße, which offers little potential for good cycle routing due to the high volume of motor vehicle traffic, the streetcar tracks and the limited space available. The cycle route axis leads to the center of Kessenich with its post office, restaurants and retail outlets.

With the establishment of Steinweg as a cycle route via the paths of Meßdorf Feld, a connection to the already designated cycle routes Bonner Logsweg and Roncallistraße is created, thus strengthening the connections between Endenich and Lessenich.

On the other hand, the connection to the Maarweg, which has already been implemented as a cycle route, will be improved, thereby strengthening the connection to and from Duisdorf and to Duisdorf railroad station. This is a section of a supra-regional axis of a priority cycle route which, coming from the Rhine-Sieg district on the right bank of the Rhine, will run over the Nordbrücke bridge, along the Tausendfüßler and along the new Endenich university campus via Messdorfer Feld and Duisdorf on to Alfter.

With the implementation of the urban development project Innovationsdreieck, a direct cycle and pedestrian connection to Bonn West is also to be realized, for which the bicycle-friendly expansion of Immenburgstraße and the construction of two bridge structures over the A565 and the Deutsche Bahn tracks are planned. The pedestrian and cycle bridge over Bahnhof West is expected to be completed in 2025.

By converting sections of Rheinaustraße and Wolfsgasse into a cycle lane, cyclists will be offered an alternative route to the Rhine promenade with a direct connection to Erna-Neubauer-Damm. The Rhine promenade is a popular local recreation destination for many Bonn residents and is therefore used by many people on foot. Cyclists should therefore be offered a convenient and fast alternative parallel to the promenade in order to avoid conflicts. There is also a central event location here, which is why the cycle route on the banks of the Rhine cannot be used several times a year and therefore has to be bypassed.

As it is not possible to cycle through Bonn harbor, Karl-Legien-Straße is part of the Rhine Cycle Route and thus closes an important gap on its route through Bonn. The road is therefore of particular importance in the everyday cycling network and for tourism.

On the harbor side, there was previously no sidewalk for employees; this could be marked as part of the cycle route.

The designation of Weberstraße, Argelanderstraße, Kurfürstenstraße and Rehfueßstraße as a cycle route is intended to improve the connection between the banks of the Rhine and the Rhine cycle path that runs along them, Poppelsdorf and Venusberg for cyclists. The route connects to the Alte Fahrweg, which is to be renovated from 2024. This will create a low-traffic axis parallel to Robert-Koch-Straße on the Venusberg. Weberstraße also connects to Schumannstraße, which has already been set up as a cycle route. This creates a connection via Reuterstraße and Oskar-Walzel-Straße to the Kessenich-Dottendorf route and the cycle path parallel to the railroad line.

With the establishment of the cycle lanes along Herzogsfreudenweg, Im Schmalzacker, Höhlenweg and Auf den Steinen, the local schools and the sports field will be well connected to the cycle network and the connection to Brüser Berg will be strengthened for cycle traffic. This is intended to promote the independent and active mobility of children.

All cycle lanes are part of the cycle lane concept and are predominantly located on the main route network of Bonn's cycling network. The following streets in the city districts are to be designated as cycle streets and marked accordingly from April 2024. The City of Bonn will inform local residents about the marking work and changing rules and conditions with sufficient lead time in spring 2024.

Most of the cycle lanes were last set up in the Hardtberg district, where there were no cycle lanes yet. Therefore, no new ones are planned for Hardtberg in 2023 and 2024.

In order to provide Bonn residents with comprehensive information about the expansion of the cycle route network and to engage in discussions with the city administration, the city's cycling team offered numerous opportunities for dialog in the summer of 2023.

Five information events were held in parallel to the planning process:

In Beuel and Bad Godesberg, the administration provided information with a mobile stand at the weekly market and answered questions from interested citizens. Two district walks took place in Südstadt and some citizens took part in a bicycle tour on the subject of bicycle lanes.

Many people also accepted the invitation to the central information event followed by a Q&A session at Beuel town hall. The event was also streamed on the City of Bonn's YouTube channel and was available online for two weeks. There were also telephone consultations at the city planning office.

Residents in new cycle streets will be successively informed about the implementation.
