Where there is a blue traffic sign with a white bicycle, cyclists must use the cycle path. If this sign is not present, cyclists may also use the roadway for motor traffic - even if there is a cycle path. These cycle paths are so-called "other cycle paths" with voluntary use.
In addition to completely separated cycle paths, there are other methods to better protect cyclists in urban traffic:
- Cycle lanes
- protected cycle lanes (Protected Bike Lanes)
- cycle lanes
- environmental lanes
- protected lanes
In future, there will be more and more protected and safe lanes for cyclists in the city so that they can get to their destination safely and quickly. In addition, since summer 2023, the city's cycle lane service team has been regularly checking the condition of the cycle lanes and informing the responsible colleagues in the civil engineering department of any damage.
Overview: What is what and which rules apply where?
Most people simply talk about "cycle paths" and mean all the lanes on which cyclists travel. When planning and reporting on cycling, many technical terms are used to describe different types of cycle lanes. Here you can read about the differences and where which traffic rules apply.
