Behavioral tips
You can protect yourself from excessive heat stress with simple behavioral tips:
- Postpone physical activities, for example shopping or sport, until the morning and evening.
- If possible, stay in the shade or in cool rooms.
- For a cool room temperature, it is best to air the room in the morning or evening. As soon as the outside temperature exceeds the inside temperature, you should keep doors and windows closed.
- Ideally, darken your home with external shading.
- Wear light-colored, loose-fitting and breathable clothing. Wear breathable headgear when outdoors and protect your skin from UV radiation with sun cream. You can also use a fan to ensure a slight movement of air.
- Drink a glass of water every hour. You can also increase your fluid intake with chilled herbal teas or juices. You should avoid alcohol, coffee and other caffeinated or highly sugared drinks in hot weather. Do not drink drinks that are too cold either.
- Eat several small, light meals throughout the day, such as salad, fruit or vegetables.
- You can cool down with cool foot baths or water sprays, for example.
- If you regularly take medication, consult your doctor in good time. Some medicines lose their effect when exposed to heat. You should therefore store your medication in a cool environment.
Use drinking water dispensers and refill offers
There are drinking water dispensers in several places in the city:
- Markt (Bonn district)
- Bottlerplatz (Bonn district)
- Theaterplatz (Bad Godesberg district)
- Reuterpark (Bonn district)
- Konrad-Adenauer-Platz (Beuel district)
- Budafok-Park (Bonn district)
- Am Schickshof (Hardtberg district)
There are also a number of stores and facilities participating in the "Refill Germany" project. A refill sticker on the window or door indicates where you can have your tap water refilled free of charge. You can find an overview on this map (opens in a new tab).
