The number of ombudsman proceedings actually conducted in 2022 (six cases) and 2023 (five cases) were both in the single-digit range. In comparison: In the period from May 1, 2013 to April 15, 2014, 27 cases were finally processed by the ombudsman's office, and in the second half of 2014 a total of 41 cases. In addition, the Council sees the ombudsman's office as a duplicate structure to the existing complaints mechanisms in the offices and departments as well as in the Citizens' Office, which can also create confusion for citizens.
Ongoing ombudsman cases are not affected by this decision and will be closed as normal. The ombudsman's office for the Jobcenter and the ombudspersons under the Housing and Participation Act as well as other municipal complaints mechanisms will also remain in place.
