Bonn offensive to overcome homelessness

The initiative is an association of the city administration, homelessness support organizations and politicians and has set itself the ambitious goal of overcoming homelessness in Bonn by 2030. It is supported by the Office for Housing and Social Affairs.

The background to this is the resolution to end homelessness in the EU by 2030, which the European Union adopted in 2020.

The capacity in Bonn to house homeless people in municipal accommodation has not been sufficient for a long time. It is difficult to provide people in the large collective accommodation centers with the care they need. In addition, it is hardly possible to overcome homelessness by placing people in the housing market. This is particularly true in the low-cost segment.

The social administration would like to work together with homeless assistance providers to provide decent housing, improve the quality of accommodation for homeless people in Bonn and better meet their needs by using all standard social systems. The aim is also to tap into those service and assistance structures that have so far been virtually inaccessible to this group of people, such as care insurance and health care services or integration assistance.

The social administration needs support for this task. Both from within the city administration and from external cooperation partners.

On the recommendation of the social administration, the Bonn City Council has decided to set up an office at the Caritas Association for the City of Bonn. This can be contacted by telephone on 022 1080 and  eu2030caritas-bonnde

State initiative "A home at last!"

To combat homelessness, the state government has launched the initiative "A home at last!" - an initiative against homelessness. "Endlich ein Zuhause" is implemented by the Office for Children, Youth and Family.

As the worst form of poverty is reflected in homelessness and many cities face a major challenge with regard to this problem, the state initiative was founded by the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia in cooperation with various stakeholders.

Who is the initiative aimed at?

The target group includes young adults aged 18 to 26 with no fixed abode, who have left youth welfare services and are no longer being looked after there, who can no longer live at home or no longer want to live at home, who have already lost their first home due to their own fault or the fault of others and young people with a refugee background.

The employees of the state initiative reach the target group through direct contact with street social work or through referrals from other agencies and organizers.
