There will be an information campaign on digital billboards and info screens in the city. The campaign will also run on social media. People who live in the future cycle streets will be informed both in good time and - as in the past - by letter shortly before the marking work begins.
"The cycle streets are important connecting axes for a continuous cycling network in Bonn, with which we are increasing the safety of cyclists, especially children and young people. At the same time, we are strengthening pedestrian traffic in the cycle streets by ensuring appropriate sidewalk widths," explains Mayor Katja Dörner.
When redesigning the streets, the city administration has taken sufficient sidewalk and safe road widths into consideration. As a rule, sidewalks will be 2.50 meters wide and not less than 1.50 meters wide. The carriageway in the cycle lanes will generally be 4.50 meters wide, but at least four meters. On this basis, the administration has redistributed the areas in the future cycle lanes and taken into account the interests of all road users.
Where necessary, car parking spaces have been removed or converted, while at the same time ensuring that as many parking spaces as possible are retained. As all cycle lanes will in future be restricted no-stopping zones in which parking is permitted in marked areas, short stops for loading, unloading and delivering goods and objects as well as for picking up or dropping off people will generally remain possible even where no parking spaces are marked.
Craft businesses, nursing services, midwives and social services can apply for a parking permit from the city. This allows them to park in restricted no-parking zones and free of charge in the area of parking ticket machines and therefore also in the bicycle lanes. You can find information on the craftsmen's parking permit here (opens in a new tab).
