Oberkassel-Mitte train stop to be made barrier-free

The three train stops in Oberkassel are being made barrier-free. After the conversion of the "Nord" and "Süd" stops had already been decided, the Bonn City Council approved the conversion of the Oberkassel-Mitte stop on February 1, 2024.

The three stops are served by both light rail line 66 and streetcar line 62. Due to the different rail systems (high-floor and low-floor), mixed platforms are required for the barrier-free expansion of the stops, each consisting of an underground platform (at least 30 meters long) and an elevated platform (at least 60 meters long), i.e. a total of around 100 meters. The projects will not only include the barrier-free expansion of the actual stop areas, but also accessibility in the immediate vicinity. With regard to barrier-free access to the Oberkassel-Mitte stop, the adjacent street space must be examined more closely in the further planning process.

The next step is to draw up the design plans for the three stops. This will be followed by information events for the public. Applications will be made to the state of NRW for funding for the expansion measures. At this stage, it is not yet possible to make any statements about the specific costs.
