City of Bonn

Service

Promotion of cultural projects

Overview

The City of Bonn supports projects in the fields of music, theater, dance, visual arts, literature, film/video and rock and pop culture as well as projects in the aforementioned fields for children and young people. In addition, projects that are suitable for reaching people who have not previously been able to participate in cultural life, or not to a sufficient extent, can be funded.

Decisions on the distribution of available funding are made twice a year on the basis of complete applications received by the deadline.
A complete application consists of a formal project funding application including a financing plan and a detailed, informal project description.

The criteria for awarding project funding are

1. general criteria

  • Project funds are awarded in two funding rounds per year. The application deadline for funding in the first half of the year is the last working day in June of the previous year; for funding in the second half of the year, the deadline is the last working day in December of the previous year. The date of receipt by the City of Bonn applies.
  • No entitlement to funding for further projects or institutional support can be derived from an approved project grant.
  • A prerequisite for funding is generally that a project classified as worthy of funding would not be able to be realized without the support of the city, or only in an unacceptably shortened form.
  • Funding can also be provided for project series or larger projects that extend beyond the approval period.
  • Multiple funding from the Cultural Office is only possible in exceptional cases that must be specifically justified.
  • In this sense, a new series of events or a new project series can be funded a maximum of three times in succession in the form of start-up funding.
  • A personal contribution by the applicant / applicant institution must be shown in the financing plan.
  • In order to ensure that the projects funded by the city can be perceived by the public to an appropriate extent, a minimum number of public events in Bonn or the minimum duration of the presentation must always be agreed in advance with the Cultural Office.

2. requirements for applicants / applicant institutions

  • Applicants / applicant institutions should have a recognizable connection to Bonn.
  • Only applications from professional groups or artists are eligible for funding. Funding is not provided for amateurs or amateur groups.

3. requirements for the projects

  • The following are eligible for funding
