Compatibility of family and career

Gender equality in the workplace is a joint task. It is about equal responsibility in all areas of life.

The aim must be to find new opportunities beyond the traditional distribution of tasks and independent of personal life situations. This includes flexible and family-friendly forms of work.

Achieving changes with regard to the division of family responsibilities is a contribution to equal opportunities. It is the responsibility of all employees - especially line managers - to create a climate in which equal rights can be practiced as democratic action both internally and externally. Only in this way can the City of Bonn also succeed in passing on the equality policy approaches of its administrative actions to the citizens of our city.

The  Equal Opportunities Office advises not only employees of the city administration, but also citizens on measures that can be used to better reconcile family and career.

Part-time vocational training

The CJD's ModUS/TEP advice center in Bonn supports, advises and accompanies young mothers and fathers in their search for part-time vocational training. All information about the free offer can be found here:

Further information:

The fact that part-time vocational training will be offered more often in the future is also a measure of the equal opportunities plan of the Bonn city administration. However, this depends on the respective schools and institutions with which we cooperate. The Bachelor's degree course in Municipal Administration at the University of Applied Sciences for Police and Public Administration NRW will be offered part-time for the first time in 2023.

Audit for work and family

In 2021, the City of Bonn successfully completed the "berufundfamilie" audit and received the quality seal for a company reconciliation policy for the first time. As an employer, it thus sends a clear signal for family awareness. In 2024, it was re-audited and awarded the seal again.
