All Germans who have reached the age of 18 on election day (i.e. were born on February 23, 2007 or earlier), have lived in Germany for at least three months or are otherwise ordinarily resident in Germany and are not excluded from the right to vote are eligible to vote.

Under certain conditions, German citizens who are not registered in Germany are also entitled to vote in Bundestag and European elections upon application.

All eligible voters have two votes each: The first vote is used to elect the constituency candidate for constituency 95 Bonn. The second vote is used to elect a specific party (state list).

With the election notification, the electoral office informed citizens that they were entered in the city's electoral register on the statutory deadline, January 12, 2025, and are entitled to vote. However, all eligible voters may vote, even without a voter's notification, if they can prove their identity. In some cases, eligible voters may not have received a notification, for example because a letterbox is missing or an existing letterbox is not labeled and the voter's notification cannot be delivered.

Anyone who had not received a notification by February 2 but believed they were entitled to vote could view the electoral roll at the electoral office from February 3 to 7 and lodge an objection if necessary.

On-site postal voting at one of the four polling stations is a good way to make sure your vote is counted. These have been open since Saturday, February 8, 2025. The postal voting documents are issued here directly on site and anyone who wants to can fill them in directly and drop them in the ballot box - which is legally a letterbox. The electoral office will transport the postal voting documents to the City Hall, where they will be assigned to the relevant postal voting district and counted there on election night.

There is a polling station in each district:

• City Hall Berliner Platz 2, entrance hall
• Bad Godesberg Town Hall, Kurfürstenallee 2-3
• Beuel Town Hall, Friedrich-Breuer-Str. 65
• Duisdorf Town Hall, Villemombler Str. 1

Opening hours:

• Monday and Thursday from 8 am to 6 pm
• Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Friday, February 21, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Personal applications are still possible until Friday, February 21, at 3 pm.

Anyone who has applied for postal voting documents but not received them can still obtain replacement documents from the polling stations until Saturday, February 22, at 12 noon. Postal voting documents will only be handed out to applicants in person. On Saturday, it will only be possible to vote on site in the City Hall; those who receive replacement documents in the district town halls must bring the ballot letter to the City Hall themselves. Anyone who can prove that they suddenly fall ill can have their documents issued to a third party by proxy at the polling stations by Sunday, 3 pm, in accordance with the Federal Election Regulations.

All election letters must be received by the electoral office in the City Hall, Berliner Platz 2, by 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, at the latest in order to be counted. Election letters can be posted in the night letterbox at the main entrance to the City Hall or handed in at the information desk in the City Hall during opening hours. What is not possible: No postal voting documents can be handed in at the polling stations and polling stations on Sunday! The last opportunity to drop off postal ballot letters in the letterboxes at the district town halls is on Friday, February 21.

The 177 polling stations in the Bonn city area are open from 8 am to 6 pm. Anyone wishing to vote by ballot box on election Sunday should find out the exact location of their polling station in advance. The respective address can be found on the polling card.

You can also find the polling station search online via the  online application OLIWA (opens in a new tab) under the topic "Where is my polling station?". Simply fill in the mandatory fields zip code, place of residence, street and house number to display the address of your polling station.

In polling districts 065, 101, 243, 251, 264, 314, 366 and 120, ballot papers marked according to age group and gender are used in the polling station. The aforementioned procedure is used for representative electoral statistics in accordance with the Electoral Statistics Act; the secrecy of the ballot is maintained.

On Thursday, January 30, 2025, the State Election Committee rejected the complaints against the non-admission of district election proposals in twelve constituencies - including constituency 95 Bonn.

Under certain conditions, Germans living abroad may also be eligible to vote.

Only those who are entered in a voters' register can vote. Germans living abroad who are not registered in Germany are not officially entered in a voters' register. If they wish to vote in Bundestag elections, they must submit a written application for entry in the voters' register of the responsible municipality in which they were last registered before each election. For the upcoming election, the application had to be received by the electoral office of the City of Bonn by February 2, 2025 (21st day before the election) at the latest.

There were two ways to apply for voter authorization with different forms and mailing requirements:

On their websites, the  Federal Returning Officer (opens in a new tab) and the  Federal Ministry of the Interior (opens in a new tab) provide detailed information on recognizing and combating disinformation and offer various information sheets.

The Federal Ministry of the Interior also points out that no cyber attacks are possible from the ballot box to the postal ballot. Various security mechanisms under electoral law guarantee proper elections and protection against manipulation. Votes are cast both in the polling stations and by postal vote using official ballot papers only.

At its meeting on Friday, October 1, 2021, chaired by Chief Electoral Officer Mayor Katja Dörner, the district electoral committee determined the official final result of the Bundestag election.

According to the official final result, 185,557 out of 230,215 eligible voters in Bonn exercised their right to vote. This corresponds to a voter turnout of 80.60 percent.

First votes: Katrin Uhlig (GREENS) 25.24 percent, Jessica Rosenthal (SPD) 25.12 percent, Christoph Jansen (CDU) 24.37 percent, Alexander Graf Lambsdorff (FDP) 12.60 percent, Prof. Dr. Hans Neuhoff (AfD) 4.05 percent, Ilja Bergen (DIE LINKE) 3.63 percent, others: 5.0 percent.

Second votes: GREENS: 27.20 percent, SPD 22.58 percent, CDU 22.53 percent, FDP 11.87 percent, DIE LINKE 5.44 percent, AfD 4.20 percent, others 6.20 percent.
