E-mobility in Bonn - the future is going electric
The car is the central lever for a climate-neutral Bonn transport system, as cars account for a significant proportion of traffic-related CO2 emissions in Bonn. The most important levers for protecting the climate are fewer car journeys and a shift to environmentally friendly means of transport such as public transport or cycling. For traffic that cannot be avoided or shifted, the switch to alternative drive systems is crucial.
For cars and light commercial vehicles, the method of choice is to replace combustion vehicles with battery-powered electric vehicles, as this form of drive is the most energy-efficient and significantly more efficient than fuel cell vehicles and vehicles with combustion engines.
This is why the city of Bonn is promoting electromobility by gradually expanding the charging infrastructure for electric cars. Information on e-charging stations in the city and home charging stations for your e-car can be found at Stadtwerke Bonn (SWB).
Adenauerallee: New layout offers space for everyone
In future, Adenauerallee will offer more safety for cyclists and more space for commercial traffic. A new cycle lane and 20 loading zones will be set up for this purpose. A three-month traffic trial has shown that motor vehicle traffic can be handled in one lane at a time.
Temporary school streets: A Bonn success story
With the start of the new school year 2024/2025, the Bodelschwinghschule in Friesdorf will be the sixth elementary school in Bonn to increase the safety of its schoolchildren in road traffic. The aim is to reduce the dangerous drop-off and pick-up traffic for parents.
Alternatives to your own car
Anyone who commutes 40 kilometers to and from work today with an average combustion engine produces as much CO2 in one day as a deciduous tree can bind in a whole year: 15 kilograms. So every kilometer saved is good for the climate, the air and the quality of life in our city. To help make Bonn a better place to live, you can, for example, ride with others or give commuters a lift in your own car. SWB Bus und Bahn offers a platform for this with the carpooling app goFLUX:
There are many more alternatives in Bonn for getting around without your own car, for example by (rental) bike, a Carsharing car or, of course, Bonn's public transport system - why not give it a try!
Running costs per month for the car
Driving a car is also much more expensive than most people think, and many people no longer even think about how expensive a single journey is. A car costs a private individual several thousand euros a year, yet it is parked for an average of 23 hours a day and - when parked on public roads - takes up a lot of space that cannot be used for trees, benches or wide sidewalks.
