The entire pipeline infrastructure such as district heating, gas, water and energy supply will be renewed or adapted to future requirements, as will the telecommunications. Bornheimer Strasse will then be redesigned on the basis of the plans approved by the Bonn district council on June 7, 2022. The entire construction project is scheduled for completion at the end of 2024.
One-way street out of town
During the construction period, a one-way street will be set up on the entire stretch of road out of town. The access roads to the roads leading to the south (e.g. Taunusstraße and Eifelstraße) will not be turned off Bornheimer Straße, as these are dead ends. The Hochstadenring/Viktoriabrücke and Adolfstraße junctions will be kept open to traffic. The northern roads Eifelstraße, Heerstraße and Weiherstraße will be closed if necessary, but not at the same time.
In the street running parallel to Viktoriabrücke (Hochstadenring 37-53), the one-way traffic regulation will be reversed so that it will only be accessible from Bornheimer Straße in the direction of Thomastraße. To improve accessibility to this section of road, Heerstraße will be opened at Thomastraße and set up as a detour route for local residents and as an alternative route for police emergency vehicles. The cycle lane will therefore be closed in this section.
Access routes for fire, rescue, police and other emergency vehicles will be kept clear. Access to the buildings in the extension section of Bornheimer Strasse will be ensured for pedestrians and vehicle access to the rear courtyards. However, temporary restrictions on accessibility cannot be avoided, but will be kept to a minimum and announced to residents in good time.
Detour
The detour for motor vehicle traffic coming from the north is via Heinrich-Böll-Ring and Thomastraße in the direction of Alter Friedhof/City. The detour for cycle traffic starts at Ellerstraße and leads via Vorgebirgsstraße and Maxstraße into the city center.
The civil engineering office will carry out the conversion as smoothly as possible and asks for your understanding for any unavoidable disruptions. The construction work should be completed by the end of 2024. However, it cannot be ruled out that unforeseeable underground conditions or bad weather, for example, may lead to delays in the construction process or completion of the work.
