Former post office site in the old town: early public participation

The Bonn City Council has decided to involve the public and authorities at an early stage in the development plan procedure for the former post office site on Dorotheenstrasse in the inner Nordstadt (old town).

The objectives and purposes of the planning will be on public display for two weeks and the city will invite people to an information event. The city administration will announce the dates in good time.

The site, which served as an office and delivery center for Deutsche Post until 2018, comprises the properties at Kaiser-Karl-Ring 59-61 and Dorotheenstrasse 103 with a total area of 6,900 square meters. Since 2020, Swiss Life AM has been continuing the development plan procedure adopted by the city in 2018.

At least 50 percent of the planned floor space in the project is earmarked for - urgently needed - residential space; the Bonn building land model for subsidized housing is being applied. A mix of different apartment sizes is to be created. In addition, the construction of a three-group daycare center is planned. The entire project is to meet at least the KfW 55 energy standard, have photovoltaic systems and a mobility concept is to be developed and implemented. A contract will be concluded between Swiss Life AM and the city regarding this content.

The project cannot be implemented on the basis of current planning law. The conditions must therefore be created by means of a development plan procedure.
