The Infection Protection Act (IfSG), the NRW Hygiene Ordinance and the Ordinance on Hygiene and Infection Prevention in Medical Facilities specify the measures for the prevention of communicable diseases (infection prevention).

The task is the infection hygiene monitoring of

• medical facilities,
• nursing homes,
• children's community facilities,
• other shared accommodation and
• businesses where there is a possibility of blood-borne diseases being transmitted.

The infection hygiene monitoring of inpatient care facilities is carried out as an annual regular inspection in accordance with § 36 of the Infection Protection Act, § 17 of the NRW Public Health Service Act and is based on the recommendation of the Commission for Hospital Hygiene and Infection Prevention at the Robert Koch Institute.
