Brussels supports Bonn
The European Union provides a wide range of funding instruments. These in turn form a broad spectrum of objectives, topics, priorities, responsibilities and participants. The European Union supports the City of Bonn with 5.3 million euros for ongoing projects. This means that around five percent of all funding comes from Brussels. Measures such as the expansion of the "data-driven economy and society" or the "Competence Center for Women and Work" as well as the "Regional Climate Change Strategy" are supported.
In Bonn, European funding flowed into social projects such as the "Socially Integrative City of Tannenbusch", the expansion of green infrastructure such as the "Green C" or the development of the UN City of Bonn. EU funding for science and research is of outstanding importance. The Rheinische Friedrichs-Wilhelm University and numerous higher education institutions in the region are dependent on funding from Brussels. This also includes the Fraunhofer Institute for Information Technology in Sankt Augustin. Together with Copenhagen and Turin, the city of Bonn is involved as a project partner in its Europe-wide research project MONICA, which deals with the security of major events.
All Bonn funding projects in which the city administration is involved are recorded in a separate database. A city funding department has been set up to coordinate this future task and provide support and advice.
