All reasonable costs incurred in connection with the measure, including design and planning costs, are eligible. In addition to the planting, earth-bound façade greening also includes the creation of the planting areas and the installation of suitable climbing aids. Wall-mounted green façades are only eligible for funding if they are irrigated by rainwater from retention systems (cistern, rainwater collector, retention roof).

Funding is available for 50 euros/m² for façade greening, up to a maximum of 50 percent of the eligible costs of a measure.

Green roofs on flat or pitched roofs in extensive (from 5 centimetres substrate layer) or intensive design (from 20 centimetres substrate thickness) are eligible for funding, including design and planning costs. The installation of retention roofs is supported in accordance with the funding conditions for intensive green roofs. All reasonable costs incurred in connection with the measure from the top edge of the roof waterproofing, such as all expenses for the construction of the vegetation layer with root protection membrane, protective fleece, filter mat, drainage layer, substrate and seeds or plants, are eligible for funding.

Funding is available for 30 euros/m² for extensive green roofs and 50 euros/m² for intensive green roofs and retention roofs, up to a maximum of 50 percent of the eligible costs of a measure. Funding for green roofs is possible for contiguous areas from a minimum size of 4 m².

Funding is available for measures in which sealed surfaces without greenery (e.g. paving, concrete and asphalt) are removed and permanently greened with a connection to the natural soil as close to natural as possible. Partial unsealing, where at least half of the area is unsealed and a maximum of half of the area is partially sealed (e.g. covered with grass pavers), is also eligible for funding.

Funding is available for 50 euros/m², up to a maximum of 50 percent of the eligible costs of a measure. Funding is possible for contiguous areas from a minimum size of 4 m².

Funding is available for the purchase and installation of a rainwater retention system such as cisterns or rain barrels in combination with a funded measure for greening buildings or unsealing and greening.

The subsidy amounts to 50 percent of the costs recognized as eligible, up to a maximum of 150 euros for systems with a retention volume of up to 500 liters of rainwater and a maximum of 300 euros for systems with a retention volume of over 500 liters of rainwater. The stored rainwater is used to irrigate green areas and the subsidy is only paid in conjunction with a subsidized greening measure.

More and more people want to actively do something for plants and animals - the Office for the Environment and Urban Greenery would like to show how this is also possible in the city with the  biodiversity trail in the city.

Green roofs can be created in very different ways. The thicker the layer of plant substrate, the more varied the selection of suitable wildflowers, perennials and shrubs.

• Extensive green roofs have a substrate layer of 5 cm or more and are suitable for planting sedum species.
• For intensive green roofs, at least 20 cm of planting substrate is applied. The thicker the layer, the higher the planting of flowering perennials and shrubs can be.
• A biodiversity roof is characterized by a particularly diverse selection of species of flowering wild plants. This creates important food sources for insects.
• In addition to providing greenery, retention roofs also serve to store precipitation. Even heavy rainfall is collected in an accumulation layer, and in drier times the water is used to supply plants.
• The solar green roof is a combination of photovoltaics (PV) and greenery. Here, the PV modules can be placed on the roof surface without additional fastening and secured against wind loads with the help of the plant substrate. The greenery also reduces heat radiation, which increases the efficiency of the PV systems.

When greening façades, a distinction is made between ground-based and wall-based planting systems. Placing the plants in the ground has the advantage that they are supplied with water and nutrients naturally. Hanging plants on walls, on the other hand, requires more technical effort and an additional irrigation system.

All wall greening must be regularly maintained and pruned.

• Climbing plants that require supportive climbing aids include native species such as clematis, honeysuckle and hops, climbing roses in varieties and non-native species such as the American climbing trumpet or Chinese blue rain and also the tree shrike.
• Self-climbing plant species include ivy and wild grapevine (clinging discs) and climbing hydrangea (clinging roots).
• Edible plants, such as vine and kiwi, can also be used as wall greening in mild climates.

Especially in times of great water scarcity, it makes sense to collect rainwater and use it for watering the garden. This saves the consumption of drinking water and the precipitation can be fed directly into the groundwater through infiltration.

In combination with one of the greening measures described, rainwater retention devices such as rain barrels and cisterns are also subsidized.
