New parkour and fitness facility under the North Bridge approved

The City of Bonn's Sports and Pool Authority is to build a parkour and fitness facility under the 565 federal highway (Nordbrücke) between Bonn-Castell and Bonn-Auerberg. This was approved by the Bonn district council on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

The facility will create a modern sports facility that is accessible to all citizens and is particularly appealing to young people. It further strengthens outdoor sports in Bonn, which are becoming increasingly popular. The city already completed several outdoor sports facilities last year. Relocatable and barrier-free system

With the decision of the sports committee on March 9, 2023, the administration was commissioned with the planning and implementation of the project. The modular and barrier-free facility covers the sports areas of parkour, skating, fitness and calisthenics. The cushioning cork flooring is 95% recyclable. The facility includes pole systems and concrete elements, both with a special surface structure for optimum grip, and angled structures across the area. The facility was planned by the "TraceSpace" office, which specializes in parkour and movement space design.

The entire facility can be completely dismantled so that it can be moved to another location if necessary for the planned future renovation of the highway bridge. The area itself is owned by the federal government and the city of Bonn is allowed to use it. Autobahn GmbH has approved the sports facility in principle. It will be secured by a barrier from the roadway and equipped with benches that invite people to linger.

The total costs amount to 250,000 euros, of which 200,000 euros have been budgeted for the construction of the facility and 50,000 euros for planning costs. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025. The measure is to be put out to tender once the provisional budget has ended.
