To protect the animals from cars and cyclists, the city of Bonn is closing part of the road for around eight weeks from Friday, February 14, 2025. The Philosophenring will be closed for 100 meters between Fichtestraße and Nietzschestraße. The buses on route 613 will take a detour. Timetable information is available at www.swb-busundbahn.de. Amphibians are among the most endangered animal groups in Europe. In Bonn, the Heiderhof is home to species that are particularly in need of protection: common toads, agile frogs and grass frogs as well as newts and alpine newts. They must not be caught, injured or killed.
Amphibian tunnel in Beuel
Frogs, toads and amphibians are also protected on other roads. On Pützchens Chaussee in Beuel, the animals can cross safely to the other side through a tunnel set up for them. The Bonn/Rhein-Erft Biological Station is putting up fences again from time to time, including on Oberkasseler Straße in Beuel. They prevent the animals from crossing the road. The amphibians fall into dug-in buckets and are carried to the other side every day by volunteers.
Caution on other roads in the city as well
Caution is also advised on the Finkenberg in Finkenbergstraße and Steinbruchweg in Limperich, in Burghofstraße in Obertholtorf, on the main road at Holzlarer See, along Villiper Allee in Röttgen, in Nachtigallenweg in Poppelsdorf and in Annabergerstraße in Friesdorf.
