The company commissioned by the city of Bonn already carried out the markings out of town from Koblenzer Tor to Bundeskanzlerplatz last week. Due to the current weather forecasts and the upcoming carnival days, the marking work in the opposite direction - from Bundeskanzler to Koblenzer Tor - will continue on Ash Wednesday, February 14. If the weather is suitable at this time (it must be neither too wet nor too cold), the company will need around a week to complete the work. The city administration therefore expects work to begin on February 23.
For the traffic trial on Adenauerallee, a width of 2.70 meters of the right-hand lane in both directions will be separated for bicycle traffic with illuminated beacons at intervals of five to ten meters and solid yellow markings. A lane with a width of 3.50 meters remains for motor vehicle traffic.
The separated lane for bicycle traffic will be marked with bicycle pictograms. Property access roads, junctions and parking spaces will remain accessible and will be marked in yellow for additional safety. The row of beacons will be interrupted at the relevant points. Driveways and parking spaces can be accessed despite the solid line. This line is only a lane boundary that may be crossed for these purposes. Bus stops and loading zones are also marked.
Test phase until the end of May
Following the upcoming renovation of the sewer, road drainage and road surface from June, the road space on Adenauerallee between Koblenzer Tor and Bundeskanzlerplatz is to be redesigned. As it can no longer be reconstructed in accordance with current regulations, the city administration has proposed the creation of one lane for motor vehicle traffic in each direction plus additional turning lanes in the intersection areas as well as a structurally separated, safe cycle lane - a so-called protected bike lane.
This traffic routing will be tested during the three-month traffic trial. It was originally planned to run from the beginning of January to the end of March. Due to the delay in setting up the traffic management system, the traffic trial is now expected to run until the end of May. Among other things, the average travel time of motor vehicle traffic will be measured. To accompany the traffic trial, the city administration will be inviting people to discuss their experiences with the traffic trial and make suggestions for the new plans at on-site and online dialog stands in March and April.
