The implementation of the Nordstadt parking concept will now become more visible in the north of Bonn from mid-August. The civil engineering department has begun the necessary marking and signage work. In future, almost all streets in Nordstadt will be managed.
As part of the implementation of the parking space concept, the minimum pavement widths of 1.50 meters decided in the city of Bonn will be established and the lane widths of at least 3.05 meters specified in the road traffic regulations will be kept clear. This will create enough space in the streets for the fire department and emergency services on the one hand, and sufficient space for people with walking frames, wheelchair users, parents with baby carriages or residents with large shopping bags to move safely and comfortably through the district on the other. In addition, the range of e-scooter and bicycle parking facilities will be expanded. This will also help to keep the sidewalks clearer in future.
Preparatory work began at the end of May
Initially, a total of 75 parking ticket machines were installed in this area by the end of May. Now that the machines have been installed, the signage and marking work has begun. The first signs are already up in many places. Some of the signs are still concealed - these are the signs indicating that non-residents are obliged to use the parking ticket machines.
The concealed signs will only be uncovered once all the parking management measures in Nordstadt have been completed - and the new parking regulations will come into force. This is to be implemented in October and the machines will be switched on centrally at the same time.
Two park areas
The Nordstadt parking space concept applies to the entire area between Kölnstraße in the north, Oxfordstraße in the east, Thomastraße in the south and Dorotheenstraße and Ellerstraße in the west. Due to the lower parking pressure, the residential area north of Lievelingsweg is exempt from parking space management for the time being.
Residents in Bonn pay 360 euros per year for a resident parking permit, i.e. one euro per day. This corresponds to the cost of creating and maintaining a parking space in a public space as well as the administrative costs and controls of resident parking. For people who have a valid Bonn ID card, 75% of the fees are covered by the Office for Social Affairs and Housing. The prices for parking tickets are higher close to the city center at 2 euros for 30 minutes than in the outer areas of Nordstadt at one euro for half an hour. These prices are intended to steer non-residents to parking garages in order to reduce parking pressure in the district and increase the quality of stay for everyone. For longer visits to the district, day tickets can be purchased for 16 or 12 euros.
Resident parking permit
The city once again draws attention to the fact that the possibility of applying for a resident parking permit will be released with some lead time before completion. The exact date will be announced in a new press release. There will be a grace period for the first ten weeks after the parking area is opened: During this time, residents will be able to park without a parking permit until their application is processed. All they have to do is leave the confirmation e-mail of the application visible behind the windshield.
