Bicycle parking garage with "toilet for all" at Bad Godesberg station

The City of Bonn would like to convert the former Klangstation at Bad Godesberg station into a bicycle parking garage with public toilets. Based on a corresponding feasibility study, the council is to commission the city administration with the implementation, according to a current draft resolution for the political committees.

"We have a great need for bicycle parking spaces in the Bad Godesberg train station area. With the bicycle parking garage in the former Klangstation, we will be able to offer cyclists theft-proof and weather-protected bicycle parking facilities," emphasizes Mayor Katja Dörner.

Space for 260 bicycles

After initially planning to implement a bike station operated by Caritas, as at Bonn Central Station, but due to reduced federal subsidies, Caritas is no longer available, a bicycle parking garage with automated access control and digital monitoring is now to be implemented. Cyclists will be able to park their bikes themselves.

According to the current planning status, 260 parking spaces in double-decker facilities are available for this purpose. Five additional parking spaces are planned for special and cargo bikes. The feasibility study currently envisages total implementation costs of 1.1 million euros. There are various funding options for the construction of bicycle parking facilities, so that subsidies of up to 90 percent would be possible.

As the building is owned by Deutsche Bahn (DB), the measure is subject to approval by DB.

Barrier-free toilet facilities

As there are currently no public toilets at Godesberg station or in the surrounding area, a public toilet facility is to be installed when the former Klangstation is converted into a bicycle parking garage. The planned toilet center will have men's and women's toilets, a baby changing room and a barrier-free toilet.

In order to create a toilet facility that can be used by as many people as possible, the city of Bonn, in consultation with the disabled community, is following the "Toilet for All" concept when planning the barrier-free toilet. In a "toilet for all", people with severe disabilities will find everything they need for their personal hygiene. A "toilet for all" is intended to promote the inclusion and participation of people with disabilities in public life and ensure that they have equal access to basic facilities.

Parallel to the further planning of the parking garage, the city administration would like to put the operation of the bicycle parking garage and the toilet facility out to public tender and award the contract. To this end, the lease agreement with Deutsche Bahn for the sound station is to be extended by at least ten years and funding for the expansion of the bicycle parking garage is to be applied for.
