Overview
If you have moved from another municipality and you register your main residence here in Bonn, you must have your vehicle registered immediately (=without culpable delay).
If a vehicle registration certificate and a vehicle registration document (old vehicle documents) are presented as part of your booked request, their exchange for a registration certificate Part I and Part II is required by law. The new documents will be issued to you immediately.
If you have moved within Bonn, this will only be entered in the registration certificate Part I (old: vehicle registration document). The new address will be changed by means of a sticker on the vehicle registration certificate or the registration certificate part I. Further information can be found here: Motor vehicle - change of address and name (opens in a new tab)
Important to note:
A reservation of the license plate does not constitute a claim to the allocation of the license plate. In addition, a registration certificate part I (vehicle registration certificate) and a registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document) must be presented at the appointment.
For logistical reasons, vehicles that are financed or leased can only be processed at the registration office in the City Hall in the city center. Please take into account the delivery and storage periods for the registration certificate part II when booking an appointment for financed or leased vehicles.
Electric, classic car or seasonal license plates are processed exclusively at the Citizens Service Center of the City Hall.
Procedure
Transfer via the service portal
Holders of the new ID card (nPA) or the electronic residence permit (eAT) with activated online ID function (eID) also have the option of using the internet-based vehicle registration procedure (i-KFZ). In this case, no appointment is required. With i-KFZ registrations, the vehicle can be put into operation immediately with unstamped license plates. For this purpose, a provisional registration certificate is made available for download after the online application, which must be downloaded within 30 minutes. If the provisional proof of registration is not downloaded, immediate registration is not possible. The certificate must be visibly displayed in the vehicle. Driving is then possible for 10 calendar days within Germany.
If necessary, the registration certificates including stickers will be sent to the owner by post. Important: License plates must be attached to the vehicle!
Further information on this can be found under "Forms and links". We particularly recommend that you visit the homepage of the Federal Ministry of Transport to check the requirements for using this procedure. You will find the link to this service in our service portal under "Forms and links".
