The Wolfsbachtal nature reserve was established when the Ennert landscape plan came into force on June 16, 2004. The area worthy of protection is located between Gielgen and Heidebergen. With a size of around 13 hectares, the area is one of the smaller nature reserves in Bonn.
The conservation designation serves to protect a stream valley worthy of preservation. The near-natural watercourse runs through a trough valley with steep valley edges and seepage springs. In the valley area there is alder-ash forest alongside the watercourse. The riparian vegetation is species-rich and has a characteristic character. The area is home to numerous endangered animals and plants on the Red List. The fire salamander, for example, has an important breeding area here. The unique character of the area is decisively influenced by the geomorphology of the relatively undisturbed Mulde valley.
