Climate adaptation in social institutions

This program supports Kita, nursing and retirement homes and hospitals, among others, to better protect them from the consequences of climate change.

This program supports Kitas, nursing and retirement homes and hospitals, among others, to better protect them from the consequences of climate change. Suitable concepts and measures are used to reduce the impact of heavy rainfall or heatwaves on the residents and employees of the facilities.

In the city of Bonn, two projects were implemented to this end by the end of November 2021. In the project "Entry and orientation consultations on climate adaptation in 20 daycare centers in Bonn" (FKZ: 67APS0292), funded by funding priority 1.1, various daycare centers throughout Bonn were examined. As a result of the study, smaller, quickly implementable measures in particular were identified, such as sun sails or greening the courtyard.

The project "In-depth concepts for climate adaptation for three daycare centers in Bonn" (FKZ: 67APS0274) was implemented via funding priority 1.2. Detailed concepts were drawn up for the selected daycare centers, which also included major structural measures and were subsequently implemented.

The knowledge gained on climate adaptation can also be transferred to other Kita facilities, thus making a long-term contribution to the quality of life and work in Bonn's social facilities.
