Vaccinate

Vaccinations are one of the most successful preventive measures in medicine. The public health department would therefore like to point out how important it is to have your child/children and yourself vaccinated by your pediatrician or family doctor.

Vaccination protects the individual and the community.

Vaccinations provide reliable protection against infections and are generally well tolerated. They also benefit the community. In general, there is an increased risk of transmitting infectious diseases when attending community facilities (e.g. kindergarten or school) due to the large number of children and young people who come together.

The Robert Koch Institute provides detailed information on the subject of vaccinations on its website. In addition to the recommendations of the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) and an overview of possible vaccinations, there is information on the importance of vaccinations, side effects and much more.

Influenza and corona

The health department of the city of Bonn recommends timely booster vaccinations from October to mid-December.

Measles Protection Act

The German Measles Protection Act came into force nationwide on March 1, 2020. Since then, children and young people who are cared for in community facilities must provide proof of adequate measles protection. The same applies to employees in the facilities and staff in healthcare facilities.

Measles is highly contagious and can have serious health consequences for children and adults. The Measles Protection Act aims to provide better protection against measles, particularly for school and kindergarten children. In future, all children from the age of one must provide proof of adequate measles protection when they start school or Kindergarten. This can be done by presenting a vaccination certificate or proof that they have had measles.

The same applies to people living in children's homes or refugee accommodation, as well as employees in community and healthcare facilities such as educators, teachers, doctors or nursing staff if they were born after 1970.
