Transition from elementary school to secondary school
The Regional Education Office of the City of Bonn initiates and coordinates school management forums. In these forums, the head teachers of the primary and secondary schools in a district meet two to three times a year to discuss various educational topics such as media education or spelling and reach joint agreements. The aim is to promote the transition from elementary school to secondary school for all those involved (children, parents, teachers). The school leadership forums currently take place in the districts of Beuel and Hardtberg.
Transition from school to work
As part of the state initiative "Kein Abschluss ohne Anschluss - Übergang Schule-Beruf in NRW" (KAoA), the City of Bonn is working with its partners and schools to further develop the school-to-work transition process.
The partners are the Rhein-Sieg district, representatives of the chambers, the German Trade Union Confederation and the state employment services in the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg economic region. With the help of systematic and gender-sensitive career and study orientation, young people in the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg district region are to be supported in making informed career and study choices and developing realistic training prospects.
Career choice seal NRW
The NRW Career Choice Seal is awarded to schools that have voluntarily registered for certification by a jury and prepare their pupils for the world of work in an exemplary manner in order to facilitate their transition into working life. The Regional Education Office in Bonn coordinates and organizes the awarding of the career choice seal for Bonn and the Rhein-Sieg district.
Continuous language education
Language is the basis for education and therefore a prerequisite for equal opportunities. Continuous language education means strengthening people's language skills throughout their educational biography. The Bonn Education Office supports the networking of stakeholders in this field.
MINT
Learning STEM together: Kita and schools working together
How can we keep children and young people interested in STEM subjects from Kita to elementary school to secondary school and motivate them in the long term? How can the transition from one institution to another be successful?
Trained educators from the Bonn MINTeinander alliances, each consisting of a Kita, an elementary school and a secondary school, passed on their knowledge to the "new" alliances and interested educators on MINTeinander Day at Nicolaus-Cusanus-Gymnasium on Tuesday, April 2. Coordinated materials for elementary, primary and secondary schools on the topic of "Swimming and Sinking" were used, which have been developed by three renowned universities in recent years as part of the MINTeinander project of the Deutsche Telekom Foundation. A special feature was that the participants were not only trained for their own educational level, but also gained an insight into how the topic is taught at other educational levels. The training day met with a very positive response from the participants.
For participants of the MINTeinandertag who are not project participants, the boxes are available to borrow from the Bonn Media Center. The project is coordinated by the Regional Education Office in Bonn.

Project "BONNEUM - STEM research-based learning and digital education" starts
Getting children and young people interested in scientific issues and digital topics - that is the declared aim of BONNEUM. The project is being implemented by the city of Bonn together with the lower school supervisory authority of the Cologne district government (education authority for the city of Bonn) and with the support of the Telekom Foundation.
In future, science learning and digital education will be taught in learning and research workshops at all levels of education, from Kita to elementary school and lower secondary school.
Educators and teachers will take on the role of learning guides. A core element of the BONNEUM project therefore consists of a broad-based training course with Prof. Dr. Wedekind, Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences Berlin, on working with children in research workshops. In addition, Prof. Gunzenreiner, University of Teacher Education St. Gallen, Switzerland, will take on the topic of digital education as part of the learning workshop. The science rooms of the former Beuel secondary school at Rölsdorfstraße 20 are planned as the central location for the BONNEUM. The Mathematics Center for Schools (MathZE) is already located there. The "Digital Education" theme will be implemented in close cooperation with the media center in Riesstraße. In addition to the central BONNEUM location, six further locations are planned for an educational chain consisting of Kita, elementary school and lower secondary school in the city.
The project was launched on November 21, 2018 with a kick-off event for numerous interested parties from daycare centers, primary and secondary schools in Bonn as well as other multipliers and potential future project partners.
MINT each other
Since August 2017, the Bonn education region has been one of 13 regions taking part in the nationwide "MINTeinander - Schwimmen und Sinken" (STEM together - swimming and sinking) project run by the Deutsche Telekom Foundation. The aim of the project is to promote STEM subjects by improving the coordination of learning content between the different levels of education. A key component is the training of specialists and teachers from different educational levels to become multipliers on the subject of swimming and sinking. Three alliances from Bonn, each consisting of a daycare center, an elementary school and a secondary school, are taking part:
- Familienzentrum Lummerland, Carl-Schurz-Grundschule, Bertolt-Brecht-Gesamtschule
- Kinderhaus am Zwergenwald, Nikolausschule, Liebfrauenschule
- Rasselbande daycare center, Servatiusschule, Nicolaus-Cusanus-Gymnasium
"senseBox" project starts in Bonn
On the initiative of the Deutsche Telekom Foundation, the city of Bonn and the foundation want to set up a city-wide network of environmental data measuring stations based on the so-called "senseBox". The "senseBox" was developed by the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster and is a so-called "Citizen Science Toolkit": It can be used to take measurements on a wide variety of issues and implement Citizen Science projects - i.e. scientific projects with the participation of citizens - from a local to a global scale. The data collected by the box increases the measurement density of various environmental factors and can contribute to more precise statements regarding climate, environmental pollution or traffic.
The project aims to support and empower children and young people to navigate the digital world safely and to use digital tools competently and creatively.
To this end, the Deutsche Telekom Foundation, in cooperation with the Regional Education Office, has equipped eleven secondary schools and 13 open youth work facilities in Bonn with the "senseBox:home" in a first step and trained educators in how to use the box.
