"The new local transport plan is the basis for a better, more efficient and more reliable bus and rail service," says Mayor Katja Dörner of Bonn. "With the new local transport plan, we will, for example, set quality standards, make statements on accessibility and define goals for urban and transport development as well as environmental and climate protection."
"Bonn's public transport system is already very good in many respects. For example, Bonn has an extremely high density of stops and a very good frequency of services. The redrafting of the local transport plan offers the opportunity to examine in an open-ended manner whether the system, which is now over 20 years old, can be modernized and made more efficient. This can include looking at routes or interchanges, for example, and future-oriented services such as on-demand transport can be considered," adds Helmut Wiesner, Head of Transport.
A representative household survey is planned in order to record the mobility behavior of the population as well as their source and destination traffic. Passenger surveys, various public and information formats and the online participation platform "Bonn macht mit" will be used to involve the people of Bonn. "We are involving citizens extensively on the way to the new local transport plan," announces Mayor Katja Dörner. "Criticism, wishes and needs regarding local public transport will be examined afterwards and will be incorporated into the concept for services and measures for the coming years," the Mayor of Bonn continued.
Cooperation with the local transport companies, primarily with Stadtwerke Bonn Verkehrs-GmbH, is of particular importance for the development of the new local transport plan. It is also important to involve the Rhein-Sieg district and the city of Cologne, with which inter-municipal public transport connections exist. In addition, the involvement of the Bonn Disabled Community and other public bodies and associations (e.g. go.Rheinland, Verkehrsclub Deutschland) is an integral part of the redrafting of the local transport plan.
