Background
Residential development and a Kita are to be built on the area previously earmarked for the cemetery extension. The City of Bonn launched an urban and landscape planning competition for the site. First prize was awarded to Machleidt GmbH, Cologne, with A24 LANDSCHAFT Landschaftsarchitektur GmbH, Berlin.
The winning design creates a clear spatial setting to the surrounding streetscapes while at the same time providing generous openings to the open space. In its location and in conjunction with the well-placed daycare center, a neighborhood square forms the interface between the quarter, existing neighborhood, new quarter and cemetery. The spacious outdoor area of the daycare center also allows for the preservation and integration of the existing fruit trees. The alignment of the buildings with the surrounding streets enables the development of generous, contiguous private and semi-public open spaces.
The division into several individual building plots promises good section-by-section feasibility, which is also able to integrate different residential typologies and architectures of the individual components. Parking will be provided in an underground garage in the northern part of the site along Wilhelm-Flohe-Strasse.
