Beethovenhalle Bonn: reopening on December 16, 2025 still right on schedule

Work on the Beethovenhalle Bonn construction site continues to make good progress. The final spurt is now underway on the restoration and refurbishment of the listed building so that the Beethovenhalle and its surroundings will shine in their former glory when it reopens on December 16, 2025.

Mayor Katja Dörner took a tour of the construction site on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, to see the progress of the work for herself. "The major construction progress in all areas is clearly visible. We therefore continue to assume that the Beethovenhalle will be open to the public again from December 16 as planned," said the Mayor afterwards. She thanked project manager Steffen Göbel, the project team at Bonn Municipal Building Management and everyone involved in making this possible.

The current status

Commissioning of the ventilation systems, radiators and electronic systems in the Beethovenhalle has been underway since August 2024. All systems were successfully switched on and have since been running in trial operation for acceptance by experts since the start of the building authority acceptance process in mid-December 2024.

The project management used the turn of the year 2024/2025 to finalize the schedule and define the last individual steps. The schedules, which have been updated individually for each room, show a clear picture: work is being carried out diligently in every nook and cranny - the interior work is in full swing. While the final coating of the parquet flooring in the Grand Foyer and Concert Hall has already been completed and the finished ticket counter for later ticket purchases is already in place in the box office hall, the carpenters in the Concert Hall are still installing the last part of the stage back wall and rehanging the restored hall doors until the end of February.

Organ is dismantled, cleaned and reassembled

On March 3, 2025, the Klais organ building company takes over the Great Hall. For around eight weeks, the imposing room will belong to them alone, while employees dismantle the organ with its 5,344 pipes into its individual parts, clean it and reassemble it so that the organ is ready for the first rehearsals of the Beethoven Orchestra and the adjustment of the acoustics in May.

In the southern areas, the final touches are being made to the ceilings and floors. In the seminar rooms, the wood paneling is being completed piece by piece. In the studio, carpenters, parquet layers and precision fitters are working together. The mobile lifting platforms have to be moved alternately to enable the installation of ceiling slats and wall cladding as well as the parallel laying of the floor covering.

Outdoor facilities: restoration of the surfaces

The first excavators have already moved away from the outdoor facilities. The renovation of the sewer and drainage system has already been completed and the next company is now starting to restore the surfaces at this point. The natural stone work is underway in the foyer garden, and the remodeling of the grounds on the south and east sides is already underway, so that the outdoor areas will also be ready for seeding and planting in October, so that the surroundings of the Beethovenhalle can be seen again for the reopening on December 16, 2025.

The area in front of the Great Hall with the staircase to the gallery is as good as finished.
