Overview
A low emission zone has been in force in Bonn since January 1, 2010.
The Cologne district government ordered a clean air plan for Bonn on October 1, 2009. The associated establishment of a low emission zone has been in force since January 1, 2010. Since July 1, 2014, only those who can prove that they have a green emissions sticker for their vehicle may enter the zone.
You may drive in the low emission zone and do not require a special permit if
- a green emissions sticker can be issued and it is affixed to the windshield of the vehicle.
Green stickers authorize you to drive in the Bonn low emission zone.
You can find out which sticker can be issued for your vehicle from DEKRA, for example (see link under "Forms and links").
You can obtain the required sticker from the vehicle registration authority, from garages and from TÜV. - You have a vehicle with
- dealer (06) license plate
(for testing, transfer or trial purposes),
- historic or classic car (07) license plate,
- export or short-term license plates,
- "0" license plates (e.g. diplomats) or
- "9000" license plates
(consulates; 900 to 999 and 9000 to 9999). - you use a tractor unit for agriculture or forestry.
- you drive two/three-wheeled motor vehicles or "quads".
- You use mobile machinery and equipment or work machines.
- You use a (blue) parking permit for disabled persons.
The following vehicles are also exempt ex officio if
- the vehicle was registered to the vehicle owner before 01.01.2008 and
- the vehicle belongs to pollutant group 3 (yellow sticker) and
- retrofitting is not technically possible.
Proof of exemption can be certified by an officially recognized expert or an inspector for motor vehicle traffic, by a test engineer appointed by an officially recognized inspection organization or by a motor vehicle workshop officially recognized for testing exhaust gases.
This certificate must then be interpreted as proof.
