With around 27,000 square meters of retail space, the city centre of the Bad Godesberg district is the second largest retail location in Bonn. Its catchment area essentially comprises the Bad Godesberg district and extends into municipalities in the neighboring Rhein-Sieg district and the northern part of Rhineland-Palatinate.
Design and advertising statutes for Bad Godesberg city center
The city center of Bad Godesberg should be an attractive center of retail, gastronomy and services for visitors. The design and advertising statutes are intended to contribute to the improvement of the cityscape, the city identity and the quality of stay.
This also promotes the distinctiveness and individuality of Bad Godesberg's appearance. At the same time, it gives building owners and businesses planning security for their projects with regard to the design of advertising structures on buildings, outdoor catering and sales opportunities in public spaces.
In summer 2018, the city council therefore adopted the "Statutes of the City of Bonn on special requirements for the design of buildings, advertising structures and traffic areas in the Bad Godesberg district center (design and advertising statutes for the Bad Godesberg district center)" as a legal basis. The decision was preceded by an intensive participation process involving interest groups, companies and owners. The bylaws are regularly monitored by a consultation group.
The wording of the bylaws can be found under the following link:
Center management for Bad Godesberg city center
At the end of 2023, the center management started its work in Bad Godesberg's city center. After holding a logo competition and "hands-on days" for the public, its office at Am Fronhof 10 was officially opened as a meeting place on February 22, 2024. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building's "Future-oriented inner cities and centers" programme. The aim of the program is to support cities and municipalities in overcoming acute and structural problems in city centers, town and district centers by (further) developing them as places of identification for the municipality into multifunctional, resilient and cooperative places.
To this end, the center management plays a central role as a communicator of the upcoming transformation process of Bad Godesberg's city center and at the same time has an open ear for local people, businesses and owners in order to incorporate their concerns and ideas for Bad Godesberg into the process.
The Bad Godesberg center management website (opens in a new tab) was launched at the same time as the opening.
This was preceded by the initiation of a center management as part of the "Immediate action program to strengthen our inner cities and centers in North Rhine-Westphalia": Since summer 2021, numerous network meetings with tradespeople and the city marketing association have been held under the moderation of center manager Sophie Büchner, a shop window exhibition on the history of Bad Godesberg, Easter campaigns with a shop window competition and a "real" Easter bunny as well as a "living Advent calendar". The center management also participated several times in the Little Godesberg Days.
Concept for tourism, culture, leisure and sport for Bad Godesberg
As part of the integrated development concept (ISEK), the importance of Bad Godesberg as a tourist, cultural, leisure and sports location is to be emphasized and the quality of life and stay on site is to be strengthened. Under the leadership of the economic development department, the commissioned office dwif conducted expert discussions on the above-mentioned topics in fall 2023 and spring 2024, strategy workshops with political representatives, the results of which were presented to the public in early January and March 2024. Among other things, 879 people had engaged with the results on the www.bonn-macht-mit.de platform alone. The Bad Godesberg district council will discuss the concept at the end of August 2024.
The concept is being funded with support from the federal government as part of the "Sustainable inner cities and centers" programme.
Bad Godesberg Stadtmarketing e.V.
At the end of the 1990s, the Bad Godesberg City Marketing Association was formed from the Bad Godesberg Round Table, which was financed and moderated by the Bonn Economic Development Agency. In the summer of 2002, it merged with the advertising association to form today's Bad Godesberg City Marketing Association. Its aim is to revitalize Bad Godesberg in every respect. The association has around 200 members from all parts of the town.
Targeted public relations work and target group-oriented events have led to connections between old traditions and new developments in the district. The city has made the Ria Maternus Pavilion available for use by the association for over 20 years
