Increasing the safety of cyclists in Bonn is a particularly important goal. In addition to improving cycle paths and cycle routes in urban traffic, this includes preventative work for greater road safety, for example:
- Speed control campaigns of motor vehicle traffic,
- Parking space monitoring measures to ensure good visibility between motorists and cyclists and avoidance of illegal parking on cycle paths and footpaths,
- Checks on the roadworthiness of bicycles,
- Police campaigns in Bonn schools and kindergartens.
The follow-up work for more road safety is mainly based on the analysis of accidents involving cyclists. In the accident commission, the police, road traffic authorities, the planning department and the civil engineering department of the city administration as well as the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) Bonn/Rhein-Sieg work together to improve areas that are particularly accident-prone.
