Child day care
If you are looking for the more familiar setting of day care for your child or cannot find a place in a Kita for your child under the age of three, you can contact the Bonn Child Day Care Network, which will help you find a day care provider. Childcare is possible both in your home and in the childminder's premises.
Further information can be found here:

If you would like to be placed with a qualified childminder, please contact the " Netzwerk Kindertagespflege (opens in a new tab)". You can find the availability times under "Contact specialist advice". There you will also find information on the placement process and how to apply for funding.
... in your household
If you decide to provide care in your own household, please note that as an employer you must register the employment of a caregiver even if the remuneration is less than 538 euros per month ("mini-job").
You can find more information about the amount of tax and registration at
www.minijob-zentrale.de, (opens in a new tab) household check procedure (opens in a new tab).
... with the day carer
As a rule, day carers, who must have a valid care license, look after up to five children in their own home or in rented rooms. If two day carers join forces, this is referred to as a large day care center. A maximum of nine children are cared for here. It is also possible for the day carer to come to your home (so-called mobile day care).
Subsidy
Subsidies can be paid towards the costs of looking after children in day care centers.
You can obtain more information about subsidy options (in the morning) by calling 0228 773118 or 0228 775652 or 0228 775132 or here (opens in a new tab).
Costs
Income-related parental contributions are due for care in a day care center as well as in a day care facility and are set out in the relevant statutes.
According to the provisions of the KiBiz (Child Education Act), parental contributions for attending a day care center are graduated according to income. The parental contributions paid may be tax-deductible (see " Tax-reducing expenses (opens in a new tab)").
For information on the amount of parental contributions for daycare facilities, please contact the Office for Children, Youth and Family at www.bonn.de/elternbeitraege or (opens in a new tab) call 0228 776718.
Childcare services from the age of 6
Open all-day elementary school (OGS)
Since the 2007/2008 school year, all municipal elementary school and special schools in the primary sector have been run as open all-day schools (OGS) and can currently offer an all-day care place to more than 60% of primary school children across the city. This guarantees reliable care for children beyond the school day. The OGS places are linked to the corresponding school places and are allocated by the providers of extracurricular activities according to certain social criteria.
The costs for OGS childcare are staggered according to income, similar to daycare facilities for children. For more detailed information on parental contributions, please contact the Office for Children, Youth and Family, Tel.: 0228 776718, www.bonn.de/elternbeitraege. (opens in a new tab)
Further information on all-day offers and the parental contribution regulations can also be found on this page (opens in a new tab).
Many schools in Bonn offer different types of after-school and afternoon care. Please refer to the brochure "Schule - über den Vormittag hinaus" ("School - beyond the morning") published by the Bonn Education Authority to find out whether these are just after-school activities or whether they also include lunchtime meals, silent lessons, homework supervision, tutoring or themed study groups.
