Bad Godesberg: City submits projects for urban development funding

The Bonn City Council has decided to submit the projects for the urban development of Bad Godesberg's city center to the 2025 urban development program. The administration was instructed to submit the measures by September 30, 2024. The financial resources for this will be made available in the municipal budget.

The integrated urban development concept (ISEK) for Bad Godesberg, adopted in 2020, serves as a guideline for the development of the city center over the next 15 years. Funding applications already submitted for 2022 and 2024 were unsuccessful, which is why the application is now being updated and resubmitted.

The new application comprises a total of nine projects, including three preparatory, two structural and four accompanying measures, which are intended to further develop Bad Godesberg in an urban planning and climate-friendly manner. In addition, sub-projects have already been funded through federal programs such as "Sustainable inner cities and centers" and "Adaptation of urban and rural areas to climate change".

The mobility concept for Bad Godesberg aims to promote climate-friendly mobility and improve the accessibility of the city center through eco-mobility (cycling, public transport, walking). Planned measures include the expansion of cycle paths, crossing points for pedestrians and a mobile station with e-charging stations and car sharing at the train station. Other objectives include traffic calming and improvements to stationary traffic.

At the same time, urban development measures are being implemented through the "City Center Master Plan", which aims to redesign public spaces and improve the quality of life in the city center. Among other things, the master plan includes the climate-friendly redesign of pedestrian zones as well as greening and unsealing projects.

Climate-friendly redesign of the pedestrian zone

One central project is the climate-friendly redesign of the pedestrian zone in Bad Godesberg (Am Fronhof to Theaterplatz), which is to be carried out in two construction phases. In addition, there are accompanying measures such as the courtyard and façade program to upgrade buildings and the center management with the meeting and innovation spaces, which supports the implementation of long-term projects.

All measures are intended to contribute to sustainable and liveable inner city development. The majority of the funding comes from urban development subsidies, supplemented by the city's own funds and private investment. The total volume of the measures for the years 2025 to 2028 amounts to around 10 million euros, urban development funding (80%) over 7.8 million euros, the city of Bonn's own contribution (20%) around two million euros, 284,000 euros are not eligible for funding.
