The Bonn City Council approved both the design planning and the cost calculation on November 9, 2023. The plans envisage a two-storey building with 13 classrooms and necessary ancillary rooms next to the teaching pavilion and the so-called building section C of the main building. The complex with passive house components for the building envelope will be equipped with an air conditioning system with heat recovery for ventilation. It will have a brine-to-water heat pump (geothermal energy) and a green roof with a photovoltaic system. In terms of primary energy requirements, it will at least meet the requirements for a KfW or ground floor efficiency building 40.
The planning takes the greatest possible account of the preservation of the existing tree population. 18 trees will have to be felled for the construction project, with replacement planting planned on the school grounds. Once the new building has been erected, the outdated pavilion can be demolished. The outdoor facilities there will be designed as a second, independent schoolyard with play and exercise facilities as well as extensive green areas.
The total costs are calculated at around 13.5 million euros. This includes a risk premium of 12.6 percent and a construction cost increase of six percent per year.
