The background to this is an accident on Monday afternoon, March 17, 2025, in which two people were hit by falling parts of the façade of a multi-storey residential and commercial building. After the fire department used a turntable ladder to check the façade of the building and bring down further loose façade parts in a controlled manner, extensive safety work was carried out by the technical relief organization in coordination with the municipal public order service on and around the building to ensure that all affected residents had safe access to their apartments.

The safety measures mean that two of the three existing lanes in this section of Kölnstraße are not available to traffic for the time being. Traffic coming from the north in the direction of the city will be diverted via Stiftsplatz. In the opposite direction - coming from Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz in a northerly direction - the road can be used. With this traffic regulation, bus traffic can be maintained via Stiftsplatz.
