The 24-hour climate ticket for groups will be available both as a cell phone ticket and at ticket machines and all points of sale. When it is introduced on January 1, 2025, it will initially cost less than ten euros. As part of the VRS fare system, price adjustments are possible in the future. The city will provide an annual budget of 650,000 euros for the new ticket offer. Any unused funds will flow into the city's climate fund for further climate protection activities.
Discounted climate ticket is part of Bonn's 2035 climate plan
The affordable 24-hour climate ticket is based on the Bonn Climate Plan 2035 resolution. Improving the quality of public transport services to motivate people to switch from cars to environmentally friendly means of transport is part of the city administration's extensive work program. The measure also helps to make Bonn climate-neutral in a socially just way, as low-income households in particular benefit from the ticket savings. The climate plan was adopted by the city council in March 2023 as a roadmap for a climate-neutral and liveable Bonn. Further information on Bonn's Climate Plan 2035 can be found at www.bonn.de/klima. The climate ticket also implements another recommendation from the "Bonn4Future - We for the climate" participatory process. As part of the two-year process with a total of four climate forums, randomly selected citizens, together with stakeholders from civil society and business, developed numerous ideas and recommendations on what needs to be done to make Bonn climate-neutral by 2035.
