As the largest further education institution in the municipality, the Adult Education Center has 33 full-time employees and around 750 freelance lecturers and offers a wide-ranging educational program with around 2,500 courses per year and around 45,000 teaching hours. The Adult Education Center is a learning organization that stands for a culture of togetherness and a culture of participation - with the aim of providing everyone with opportunities for participation through lifelong learning.

"I look forward to contributing my many years of extensive knowledge of VHS work to my future management role.
My predecessor has left behind a strong institution that has a far-reaching impact on urban society. It is important to me to preserve this and to build my future work on this foundation," says Gabriele Tillmanns. "I see great potential in a more intensive collaboration with the city library, our municipal partner in the Haus der Bildung, and would like to appeal more to younger people with inviting formats and current topics. Promoting exchange across generations is something that is close to my heart.

With a strong team in which each individual contributes their knowledge and experience to the organization, I look forward to shaping the future of the VHS together."

Gabriele Tillmanns successfully completed her Master's degree in Art History with a minor in Romance Studies/Italian Philology and Romance Studies/Ibero-Romance Philology at Bonn University in 1997. Immediately afterwards, she took up a position as a teacher of art history and monument conservation at the "Walther von der Vogelweide" Humanistic Grammar School in Bolzano/Italy. From April 1997, she worked at the Thomas Morus Akademie Bensberg in Bergisch Gladbach, a recognized institution for adult education. There she was assistant to the academy director and coordinated the development of the vacation academies.

From October 1999 to the end of July 2013, she was Product Manager at SKR Reisen GmbH (formerly Studien-Kontakt-Reisen). She was responsible for a broad international product portfolio that included the Mediterranean, Latin America, Northern Europe and the Baltic States. In later years, her work focused primarily on the further development of the Germany program. On August 1, 2013, she moved to the City of Bonn and has been working as Head of Department VI (Art and Culture) at the Adult Education Center ever since.
