The city administration has informed the district councils of Bonn and Bad Godesberg of this in a notification.
The naming is planned for Wednesday, May 22, 2024, with an official ceremony on site. "The dedication of a representative place is intended to give lasting expression to Bonn's importance as the constitutional city of the Federal Republic of Germany. After all, Bonn is the cradle of the Basic Law," says Bonn's Mayor Katja Dörner.
The Bonn-Bad Godesberg junction seems particularly suitable for this. The city of Bonn has committed to a representative design of the site. The city's 200 flagpoles, which are well-known to many Bonn residents and passers-by for outstanding international events (such as the hoisting of flags of United Nations member states on international occasions), provide an impressive setting.
Originally, this area was commonly called United Nations Square. However, for some years now, this name has belonged to the square in front of the UN Campus, between the buildings of the World Conference Center Bonn. Therefore, naming the area of the Bonn-Bad Godesberg junction of the A 562 motorway Platz des Grundgesetzes will also lead to clarity in communication and orientation in Bonn.
