City of Bonn

Council adopts fee rates for 2024

On December 12, 2023, the Bonn City Council approved the rates for wastewater disposal, waste disposal and street cleaning for 2024.

The fee rates have been increased. The reason for this is the generally higher costs due to inflation, such as the increased and rising costs of materials and personnel. In addition, the cost recovery principle applies to the fee rates: the fee income should generally cover the costs, but may not exceed them.

Waste disposal

The fee requirement for 2024 will increase by almost 6.2 million euros compared to 2023 - and thus the fee rates for residual waste disposal will increase by 13.99 percentage points as of January 1, 2024. For a family of four with a 120-liter residual waste garbage can, emptied every 14 days, the annual fee will increase from 229.04 to 261.08 euros.

Street cleaning

The rates for street cleaning will be increased by between EUR 0.57 and EUR 0.81 for regular streets, depending on the type of street, and between EUR 0.80 and EUR 1.14 per front meter for streets with increased cleaning requirements (cleaning class D, mainly pedestrian zones). For a single-family house with a frontage of 15 meters, residential street, weekly cleaning, this results in an annual fee that is 12.15 euros higher (previously 97.95 euros, now 110.10 euros; plus 12.4 percentage points).

Sewage disposal

The charges for wastewater will increase from EUR 2.64 to EUR 2.87 (plus 8.71 percentage points) per cubic meter and the charges for stormwater drainage from EUR 1.40 to EUR 1.43 (plus 2.14 percentage points) per square meter of built-up and paved area connected to the sewer system.

For a family of four with a fresh water consumption of 150 cubic meters and a house plot with a built-up and paved area of 120 square meters, the wastewater fees will increase from 564 euros in 2023 to 602.10 euros in 2024. This corresponds to an additional charge of 6.76 percentage points.
