Mobility test weeks completed - ADFC draws a positive interim conclusion

The advice offered by the ADFC Bonn/Rhein-Sieg as part of the Bonn Mobility Test Weeks was used intensively. Many participants were positively surprised by the wide range of mobility options now available in Bonn. We are now evaluating how attractive it already is to optimize your own mobility, make it more sustainable and contribute to relieving city traffic.

This is a press release from the ADFC Bonn/Rhein-Sieg

The mobility test weeks organized by the city of Bonn with the support of the ADFC Bonn/Rhein-Sieg have come to a successful end. Six households each took part for a week in an attempt to use alternative urban mobility options.

The campaign ended on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, with a final discussion to which Mayor Katja Dörner invited the participants: "The feedback from the participants was very valuable for us. I am delighted that we are already able to offer so many attractive alternatives to private cars. We want to continuously improve this offer so that it becomes attractive for even more people to switch to sustainable mobility."

The mobility test weeks are part of the city's "Bönnsche Viertel - Vibrant spaces for people" project. The ADFC Bonn/Rhein-Sieg provided support and advice to all participating households. "The participants learned what alternatives are available to them in Bonn. Whether bicycle, e-cargo bike, e-scooter or car sharing, bus and train: there are numerous options available for individual mobility," explains Martin Weiser, who carried out the consultations for the ADFC with the support of the NRW Environment and Development Foundation.

During the consultations, many participants were spontaneously surprised at how diverse and rapidly growing this range of services for optimizing urban mobility has become. All test households were also extremely interested and committed to identifying and practically implementing the potential for improvement in their own mobility mix.

The subsequent evaluation of individual experiences will show how attractive the public offer of efficiently used means of transport already is for Bonn households, and what still needs to be improved and expanded in order to support the relief of Bonn's city traffic and make it more climate-friendly.

"The mobility test weeks help us to find out what potential for improvement there is in order to achieve a mobility turnaround in Bonn that meets the needs of the citizens. To this end, we are constantly expanding our range of services," explains Anja Wenmakers, Managing Director of Stadtwerke Bonn Verkehrs-GmbH (SWB Bus und Bahn). Above all, this includes integrating even more services into the BONNmobil app.

As part of the test weeks, SWB not only gave participants the opportunity to try out the blue and silver Nextbike rental bikes and cargo bikes from Berlin cooperation partner TIER Mobility SE free of charge, but also their own bright red Clara electric scooters and a Germany ticket.

The Cambio and Grüne Flotte car-sharing cars available for hire in each district rounded off the mobility offer.
