Helmut Wiesner, City Councillor for Planning, Environment and Transport, will officially open the Thomas-Mann-Straße subway exit - at the Motel One hotel - at 3 pm on the occasion of the nationwide Day of Urban Development. "We are delighted that, following the Poststrasse subway exit, the Thomas-Mann-Strasse exits have now also been artistically designed thanks to financial support from the federal and state governments. In this way, a second central subway entrance and the station area as a whole are gaining further quality," emphasizes Helmut Wiesner.

The opening ceremony will take place in an unusual location - in the subway station - and will be accompanied by live music from Bonn artists MAIKE and Ijaz Ali. Photo and video contributions by the Historical Association of Stadtwerke Bonn and the Cologne-Bonn Transport Magazine on the general streetcar and subway construction of the City of Bonn will complement the program.

The "Kunst am Hauptbahnhof" construction project includes the redesign of the Thomas-Mann-Straße exit. In addition to the urban upgrading and renewal of floor, ceiling and lighting elements, the artistic wall design with glass art panels in particular is intended to help reduce anxiety. The elements worthy of preservation, such as columns with special tiles and old showcases, were also preserved in line with the preservation order and integrated into the renovation project. The measure was made possible primarily thanks to funding from the federal government, the state and the city as part of the urban development program.
