Mayor Katja Dörner, Jörg Galka, Managing Director of general contractor Rotterdam Bau GmbH, Stephan Janßen, lead architect Soleo GmbH, Prof. Dr. Detmar Jobst, Chairman of the Senior Citizens' Centers' Operating Committee, and Marc Biedinger, Operations Manager of the senior citizens' centers, sank the time capsule into the base plate of the new building.

As "Haus Elisabeth" no longer meets today's requirements, the new replacement building is being built on its 26,000 square meter site on Gudenauer Weg. The Mayor of Bonn emphasized how important it is "that we take good care of our elderly citizens in Bonn and offer them a dignified environment in which they can feel safe and valued".

On the one hand, the new replacement building is "a home for the elderly and a lively and integrative environment that promotes the well-being and quality of life of its residents". On the other hand, the new building is "a clear signal for the responsible use of our environment's resources and for the sustainable development of our city" thanks to its demanding KfW Standard 40 EE. In addition to geothermal energy, photovoltaic and heat pump technology will be used and will contribute to considerable energy savings and CO2 reduction.

A new inpatient care facility for elderly people in need of care is being built with 100 care places, 10 of which are for separate short-term care. Only barrier-free or wheelchair-accessible single rooms in a residential group model are planned. The rooms are planned according to modern standards, from floor-to-ceiling windows, which ensure a bright atmosphere, to floor-level showers.

The design envisages a three-storey building with a staggered storey and a single-storey extension in front on the first floor. Two residential groups for 15 residents each are planned for each floor, with two residential groups for 10 residents each on the first floor and staggered floor. Each group has a central common room. The two group rooms are located next to each other on each floor with a shared group kitchen and balcony overlooking the garden.

The municipal senior centers will invest around 18 million euros in the new Elisabeth House. Work began in February 2024. Completion is scheduled for September 2025.

Haus Elisabeth has already begun recruiting new nursing staff to prepare and implement innovative care concepts for the new building. The home recognizes the importance of a well-trained and diverse workforce in order to meet the requirements of modern care. By recruiting new staff, it can ensure that the necessary expertise and resources are available to develop and implement future-oriented care standards. "This step demonstrates the hospital's commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in the areas of nursing, care and support," explains Marc Biedinger.
