Description
Bonn wants to be climate-neutral by 2035 and comply with the 1.5 degree CO2 budget. We will achieve climate neutrality if only as many greenhouse gas emissions are generated in Bonn as can be offset.
The Climate Neutral Bonn 2035 program office was set up in February 2022 and has taken over the coordination of the Climate Plan 2035. This was drawn up with the involvement of all departments and offices. The climate plan is our roadmap for a climate-neutral and liveable city. It shows that climate neutrality can succeed if this task is tackled as a city-wide project and the framework conditions are right.
The departments and specialist offices as well as the city's subsidiaries are implementing the climate protection work program. To ensure that the goal of climate neutrality for the city as a whole can be achieved over the next 13 years - by 2035 - the Climate Neutral Bonn 2035 program office is responsible for developing indicators and coordinating support in achieving the goal.
Central management is the responsibility of the Climate Neutral Bonn Steering Committee. The Program Office is the office of this steering committee. It makes decisions in the event of conflicting objectives and on the prioritization of individual activities.
In addition, the Climate Neutral Bonn 2035 program office works together with the Office of Press, Protocol and Public Relations and the specialist departments to develop an internal and external communication strategy for the climate plan. The program office is also coordinating the development of the "Climate Neutral Group" strategy. This will describe the activities that the municipal utilities and the Municipal Facility Management (SGB), among others, will implement in concrete terms by 2035.
