Medium-sized park tree up to 15 meters high and ten meters wide, loose crown
Special feature: an exceptionally striking tree during the flowering period in May/June with bracts up to 16 centimetres long, which serve to attract insects (an attraction in nature like the poinsettia)
Leaves: broad, ovate, similar to lime leaves
Flower: small, creamy white nutlets, covered all around with many stamens, surrounded by two 16-centimetre-long, bract-like bracts; they look like open, white handkerchiefs
Fruit: round, pear-like drupe, hanging from the stem, a hard nut with three to five seeds at the core
