Scabies has been detected. The following must be carefully observed for successful control:
All family members (including grandparents if there is contact with them) must be treated, even those without itching and skin symptoms. You will need a lot of cream, 30 g for each adult, 15 g for each child aged six to twelve and 7.5 g for each child aged two to five. A 60 gram tube is only enough to treat two adults!
Make an appointment with your doctor right away, who will certify the success of the therapy for schools and kindergartens after treatment. Only children under the age of two should be treated in hospital. However, all family members must be treated at the same time.
Day 1
In preparation for the treatment, all comforter covers, pyjamas and towels should be washed at 60° C. You should start washing them in the morning so that they are dry for the night. Cover the beds with disposable gloves if necessary. Towels should only be used by one person before and during treatment and should be washed in hot water twice a day!
The laundry of all family members and all bedspreads that have been in contact with the body in the previous week should be washed at 60°C if possible. Clothes that cannot be washed so warm and other non-washable items such as woolen sweaters, (woolen) blankets, cuddly toys and shoes are placed in sealed plastic bags in warm, dry rooms for three days. Don't forget your slippers and replace them with plastic shoes first! Cuddly toys used for sleeping should be washed at 60°C or frozen at -25°C for two hours. Otherwise they can also go in the plastic bag.
1st day evening
The treatment of family members goes like this: Cut all fingernails. One child at a time undresses completely, takes a shower and dries off well. Then apply cream from the tip of the chin to the toes, i.e. all parts of the body except the face and hair, until the correct amount has been used.
It is important that all skin folds and the outer genitals are also creamed. After the shower, the parents apply cream to each other and help each other on their backs before all family members sleep in freshly washed sleeping clothes and freshly made beds. The cream should be left on for eight, preferably ten hours. Anyone who goes to the toilet at night must apply cream to their hands and possibly their buttocks again after washing.
Day 2
Thoroughly rinse off the cream. Dry off with freshly laundered towels. Put on freshly washed, mite-free clothing. Wash the bed linen and sleeping clothes of all family members again at at least 60° C! Thoroughly vacuum the carpets, mattresses and all furniture covered with fabric. Finally, throw away the vacuum cleaner filter or vacuum cleaner bag. Skin care creams or ointments are recommended until the itching subsides.
