Complaints
Symptoms include a slight fever and a fleeting skin rash with blisters on the mouth, hands and feet for about a week.
In the event of a high temperature and general symptoms, the pediatrician or family doctor should be consulted to rule out other diseases with similar symptoms and complications (especially mouth sores (opens in a new tab)).
Treatment is symptomatic: relieve itching, reduce fever, drink plenty of fluids. The Coxsackie infection usually leaves behind a long-lasting immunity.
Incubation period and infection
The time between infection with the pathogen and the outbreak of the disease is three to six days. Infection is possible via saliva, droplets, contact with vesicle contents and smear infection (including bowel movements).
Contact persons and re-admission
Contact persons may continue to attend the community facility and must pay more attention to hygiene, e.g. wash hands frequently, use separate towels. Once they have recovered, sick children may return to Kita or school. A doctor's certificate is not required.
