There are three options:

1. service portal

You can apply for a library card via the  service portal (opens in a new tab) and pay the three-month/annual fee by giropay online transfer, direct debit or PayPal.

You will need

• a scan of proof of the discount (Bonn ID card or NRW volunteer card), if applicable.
• Specify whether you would like a three-month pass for 9 euros (reduced rate 4.50 euros) or an annual pass for 30 euros (reduced rate 15 euros)
• Indicate at which library the card is to be collected.

Once the process has been processed, you will receive all further information via the mailbox in the service portal.

2. by letter

You will need

• the completed and signed  registration formPDF-File13,48 kB
• If applicable, a copy of the proof of discount (Bonn ID card or NRW volunteer card)
• Information on whether you would like a three-month pass for 9 euros (reduced rate 4.50 euros) or an annual pass for 30 euros (reduced rate 15 euros)
• Indicate at which library the card is to be collected

After processing, you will receive the account details of the City Library and the details for payment by bank transfer by e-mail or, if requested, by letter. Once payment has been received, the customer card will be activated and can be collected and used.

3. on site

You will need

• the completed and signed  registration formPDF-File13,48 kB
• identity card
• or passport with registration certificate
• or residence permit/fictitious certificate
• if applicable, proof of discount (Bonn ID card or NRW volunteer card)

The contract expires automatically when the relevant card expires. Cancellation is not necessary.

• Specification of the library where the card is to be collected

Once the process has been processed, you will receive a message via the mailbox in the service portal informing you when the customer card can be collected from the library you have specified.

2. by letter

You will need

• the completed and signed  registration formPDF-File214,12 kB
• a copy of the identity card of the legal guardian(s) (front and back)
  or a copy of the passport with confirmation of registration of the parent or legal guardian
  or a copy of the residence permit/fictitious certificate of the parent or legal guardian
  Indicate from which library the card is to be collected.

After processing, you will be informed by e-mail or, if requested, by letter that the customer card has been activated and can be collected and used.

3. on site

You will need

• the completed and signed  registration formPDF-File214,12 kB of the parent or legal guardian
• identity card of the parent or legal guardian
• or passport with registration certificate of the parent or legal guardian
• or residence permit/fictitious certificate of the parent or legal guardian

The contract expires automatically when the relevant card expires. Deregistration is not required.

• You can choose between an annual fee of 30 euros and a three-month fee of 9 euros. All media in the city library can be borrowed with this.
• With a Bonn ID card, you receive a 50 percent discount on all cards.
• Children up to and including the age of ten do not pay any usage fees; young people up to and including the age of 17 and schoolchildren aged 18 and over can use the adult collection free of charge, subject to age rating.

Please state the customer number, the type of fee (annual or late fee) and the booking number 4065 5453 0261 as the reason for transfer.

• Loan period extensions will be rejected if, for example, the item has been reserved by another customer or your own customer card has been blocked. If you submit a written request to extend the loan period, you will receive notification by post or e-mail of the new loan periods or the rejection. Any late fees incurred in the meantime must be paid when the item is returned.

You can return borrowed media in all City Library facilities or via the Central Library's external return station.

The outside return station of the Central Library is also in operation outside the  opening hours of the Central Library.

Receive an e-mail reminder of

• the end of the loan period
• the expiry of the annual fee
• the availability of ordered or reserved media
• the status of your interlibrary loan request.

Your data will only be stored for the above-mentioned purposes. If you have not yet entered your e-mail address, you can do so in person at a branch of the City Library. If you already have a password, you can also enter your e-mail address yourself in your user data:

Important! E-mail notifications are a voluntary service of the City Library without legal obligation. No guarantee can be given for the actual delivery of e-mails. You are responsible for adhering to the loan periods.

• Reservations of borrowed media and orders from other branches are possible via the  online catalog (opens in a new tab). Reservations are subject to a fee (1 Euro per medium).

Due to the changeover to new library software, it is temporarily no longer possible to accept acquisition suggestions. This will most likely not be possible again until May. The city library asks for your understanding.
